International Students

St John’s Essendon holds International Students’ Dinners every 2nd Friday of the month - see here for the date of the next dinner.  The idea began when the minister, the Rev. Mark Dunn, received a phone call from some students in real need.  The welfare support ministry was closed for another week, but there was something urgent and totally genuine in the student’s voice that got to him.  The following morning he listened to a painful story of dashed dreams and exploitation from two young Indian women.  The two students left St John’s an hour later with an armful of groceries, some SHARE vouchers, and an edited employment resume without the spelling and grammar errors “passed” by their education provider.  Later they were guests at the Dunn family dinner table. more....
